Vision: Haitians organized and engaged through local churches, schools, and NGO’s in community and economic development leading to a Haiti of peace, social justice and prosperity.
Mission: To develop neighborhood leadership that works with public, social and private partners to determine, shape, and lead sustainable development projects and social change. Program Summary: The Haiti CEN aims to develop neighborhood leadership to create small and medium scale sustainable neighborhood development projects and affect social change in Petion Ville, Haiti. CEN seeks to facilitate a culture of collaboration and accountability among the people, local churches and schools, government, NGOs, and private partners in order to achieve success. This program complements and supports ongoing national and international interventions and is critically important to achieving sizable poverty reduction and economic growth by 2030, by ensuring that progress is maintained and sustained thru civic actions. Petion Ville offers a variety of natural scenic attractions as well as cultural and heritage attractions. Recognizing the tourism potential of Petion Ville, the government and the private sector are currently investing heavily in amenities and accommodation. They also recognize that neighborhood involvement is crucial in maintaining and creating an environment that will attract visitors and create jobs. By initially focusing on one city, Petion Ville, the CEN pilot program aims to have greater impact and demonstrate a sustainability model that can be replicated in other Haitian communities. |
